Days Ten and Eleven

Flea Markets

Saturday is the day of the big flea market in Fuengirola - and on Sunday it is the turn of a neighbouring town Coin. The size of the two flea markets is staggering. I have seen such big markets on British TV programmes (Put your money where your mouth is for example or Celebrity Antiques Road Show) but compared to our two "big" flea markets at Karlsplatz in Stuttgart and at the open air cinema in Kornwestheim these are at least  four times larger - i.e. they cover an area of about a football pitch.

Fuengirola´s flea market is located on a large parking area which is used for annual events rather like the Cannstatter Volksfest (Stuttgart´s equivalent to the Oktoberfest in Munich). The photos of Fuengirola were taken this Saturday but the Sunday photos are from our previous trip (see below). (Some might notice I collect sewing machines!)

Fuengirola

On Sunday the market is held in Coin and although you see many of the same dealers the atmosphere is different. This is a market located more or less in a huge supermarket car park with a small farmer´s market 100 meters away under some tents.

A small selection of items bought at the flea markets in 2021: copper flower urn, barometer, sauce boat, serviette dispensers (2), storage jars (3), cups and saucers (18 pieces)and all for under 80 Euros!

Not bad! This year I bought just a small map (100 years old in the form of a jigsaw) and a fossil trilobite! My "fan club" were also successful!!

I have to admit: this Sunday we almost chilled out!! Instead of our trip to Coin, we spent almost half the day tidying up the gardens of Villa AvoKadi. Katrina has a full time job and is grateful for all the help she can get to tidy up and do a bit of gardening: and Karin loves gardening!
